Billie recently had a little girl come for lessons that asked a lot of
questions. The well beyond her years, nine year old,
asked Billie, “how did you start this business”? To her
surprise and delight Billie was pleased to share the
story with her.
Billie was twelve years old when she nailed a sign to the maple tree in
the front yard, “Horses for Hire” She began her business
that day with Trail Rides for $2.50 riding on the very
same trails where they ride today!
Chipman Stables is family owned and operated. Billie has been riding and
training for over 40 years. Billie has three daughters that
are all involved with the stables. Sarah, the primary
instructor, has been riding since she was three years
old and training since she was twelve. Ashlee and Casey
enjoy Trail Guiding and helping out with large groups.
Sarah has three daughters Sadie, Lauren and Lacey.
Ashlee’s daughter Maddie along with Sarah’s girls all
enjoy their time in the saddle every day. Sarah's
husband Kurt puts up all the hay for Chipman Stables and
works endless hours behind the scenes keeping things
going. Billie’s
husband, CB enjoys his daily ride to the rustic cabin
with horse Monti and black lab Bobbi.
Billie’s family and business has grown over the years. They’ve come a
long way from their living quarters upstairs over the 8
stall barn. There is a 10 stall barn on the property
next to the house. The house has been renovated where
Billie and husband CB, yellow lab Chipper and black lab
Bobbi live.
There are often overnight guests, Billie calls them family, the kids that
board their horses, help with trail rides and do chores
at the stables very often stay overnight especially
during the summer. When they are back in school and when
their schedules allow, they are there.
Neice Kaylee, divides her time between her two jobs. She works at the
Post Office and (her first love), Chipman Stables.
Kaylee has been riding at Chipman Stables since she was
3 years old. She always enjoys the challenge of working
with a new or young horse. Billie’s Mom, Margaret Coburn and her sister Kathy and
her family are
all nearby and ready to jump in when Billie needs help. |
